Products I Regret Buying

Products I Regret Buying

I'm a student, so I really cannot afford to be wasting money on products that are just not going to work for me. I research pretty much everything I buy, read reviews and blog posts to see if something is worth the money. Somehow, I have still managed to accumulate some RUBBISH products.

l-r: Dream Matte Mousse, (Box for) Benefit Boiing, Collection Gel Eyeliner, Maybelline Lipstain, Loreal Superliner

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse.
Just NO. This was my first foundation. This was the worst foundation ever. I used it before i really knew a thing about make up, from when I was about 15-17. And I have to say, this really ruined my skin. It left me with sore spots and dry patches. I have tried to wean my friends off this foundation, get them to try other things. I think you don't really realise how bad this is until you try something else. In fairness, this does look good when you first apply it, but the staying power is virtually non existent.

Benefit Boiing Concealer
I had the colour 01. I was really looking forward to using this, as it was my first proper benefit product, and I have to say I was disappointed. I mainly used it on my spots and scars, mainly on my chin. Instead of covering spots, it slipped off them, leaving greasy streaks. This was not attractive, i felt like an oil slick. I do have skin on the slightly oilier side, so maybe this concealer just adds to the issue. Also, I threw out the actual product, so I don't have a picture to show you, just the pretty box.

Collection 2000 Gel Eyeliner
This was the first and only gel eyeliner I have tried. I didn't really research this, i just thought, i'll try a cheap one, see how i get on with applying it. Firstly, this was hard to apply, i definitely needed a better brush. Secondly, this smudged up my eyes. i ended up looking like i had just applied black up to my eye brows. However, on the plus side, I think i have had this about a year, and it has still not dried up. I'm not sure why i still have it though..

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstain
I bought the colour Blushing. Actually, my boyfriend bought it for me. He said that if I walked around Tesco with a moustache on my face, he would buy it for me. Now, I am not one to turn down free make up, so obviously I accepted the challenge. So, after the embarrassment, I was seriously annoyed to find that this was the worst lip product I had ever used. It was drying, flaked on my lips, went patchy, and had dried up by the time I went to use it for the third time. These are now discontinued...

Loreal Super Liner in Black Vinyl
I read SO many good reviews about the carbon gloss version of this that I went out to buy it. I think it was discontinued or sold out, but Carbon Gloss was not in stock, so I bought this version. I don't know if I got a dodgy one, but this was sealed when I bought it, and when I first applied it, it has pretty much already dried out. So, my money was wasted. POO.

I apologise for the depressing post. It is not exactly positive. I think tomorrow I will do a products worth the hype post, just to improve the mood. But, yes, those are a few of the products I really did not enjoy, hope it helps :)

My Face #1

My Face #1

Today is pretty much a normal day. I'm just going to see my boyfriend, then maybe pop into town. This kind of make up is just what I wear on a day to day basis, a subtle smokey eye and winged liner (which I am still perfecting). I usually stick to neutrals on the eyes, and for nights out, maybe a black smokey eye if I want something particularly dramatic. I haven't included which brushes I used in this post, but I mainly use the real techniques brushes. I'll do another post on my brushes soon ( though i really don't have many to show you). Right, babbling over, this was my face today...

Face: Laura Mercier silk creme foundation in soft ivory, Topshop creme blush in head over heels, MAC blush in Sincere (used as contour)
Brows: MUA pro brow palette, Natural Collection clear mascara (to set brows)
Eyes: MAC paint pot in bare study, Urban decay Broken (all over lid) and beware (in the crease) eyeshadows, Loreal superliner perfect slim in intense black, Benefit they're real mascara.
Lips: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendez vous.

Hope you've enjoyed this post, I think I'm going to make it a regular thing, maybe once a week or so :)

My Mac Lipsticks

My Mac Lipstick Collection

Mac lipstick's are everyone's fave. If I could afford it, I would own them all. They are unlike any other lipsticks I have tried. This post explains why I like/dislike my Mac lipsticks. Hopefully it can help some of you too :)

l-r: ruby woo, girl about town, up the amp, morange, costa chic, please me, ravishing, shy girl.

Ruby woo
This is basically the perfect blue toned red. It’s a retro matte finish, which means it is the most lost lasting lipstick you will ever wear. I ate a steak, and this lipstick refused to budge. I've worn this on several nights out, without needing to reapply. Admittedly, it’s quite drying as are most matte lipsticks, but I find that using lip balm before and after wearing this helps a lot.

Girl about town
This is my newest edition, and probably one of the prettiest. I avoided bright pinks for a long time, I imagined they would make my teeth look too yellow. But, this is honestly a beautiful blue toned pink. Its an amplified finish, which means maximum pigmentation, and quite a long lasting formula.

Up the amp
This is another amplified finish  It’s a beautiful violet colour. Its unlike so many other colours, I don’t think I had seen a drugstore version of this shade when I bought it so I knew it had to be done, £14 gone. But it was so worth it.

Morange
This lipstick is not for those scared of brights. This is full on orange. Ill admit, I have has some odd looks. But I truly did not care. Its gorgeous, lasts forever on the lips and as a pale girl myself, I would say this looks really good on pale skin. Its an amplified finish too(can you tell they're my fave?!).

Costa Chic
For a while after I bought this, I avoided wearing it. I found the frost finish quite drying. However, that was in the winter, and I have been really enjoying this in the summer. It’s a beautiful coral, with slight shimmer. I don’t usually like shimmer or too much gloss on the lips but this lipstick kind of gets away with it.

Please Me
Ah, my first ever Mac lipstick. The first day I wore this, I applied it at 7am, and it was still in place at lunch time.  My friend was so amazed that she went and bought the same lipstick, and Please me was her first MAC lipstick too. And there began our obsession. It’s a matte finish, so like ruby woo, can be a little drying, but this feels more creamy on the lips.

Ravishing
This is my go to lipstick if I have a dramatic eye. It’s a gorgeous light peach orange colour. It’s a cream sheen finish which means its more moisturising that most other formulas but it doesn’t have the staying power. I found a good dupe was revlon's smoked peach matte lipstick, so I alternate these two if I want a peach lip.

Shy Girl
This is my least favourite out of my mac lipsticks. Despite wearing it less often than the rest, I have used quite a lot up, because this needs to be constantly reapplied. It is a lovely nude, and is a cream sheen so its moisturing, but this lipstick confirmed to me that I am not really a nudes girl.
Swatched (on my slightly hairy arm) l-r: ruby woo, girl about town, up the amp, morange, costa chic, ravishing, please me, shy girl.

I realise 8 mac lipsticks is nothing to most people, but as a student, I feel a little pang of guilt every time I pay another £14. (I just checked. Since I last bought one, they have gone up to £15. MAC STOOOOOOP!) I decided to allow myself one new mac lipstick a month. So you will be updated each month on what I buy. (I cant promise it will only be one a month, but ill try).

Hello...

Hello

(Awkward intro time)

My name is Kelly, and this is my blog. For the last 18 months or so, I have been plucking up the courage to start my own make up beauty blog. I am by no means an expert, but I wanted to share my thoughts and opinions with you, just like I have read the thoughts and opinions of others. I'm a student on a budget. So, most of my posts will probably be reviews or favourites rather than bucket loads of hauls.  I guess I am pretty much talking to myself for now, but if anyone reads this, WOOHOO!
